Making a Difference in Delco

By Bryan Shrouds

As a former Delawarean, I spent a lot of time in and around Delaware County. Even as an outsider, it was clear to me that Delco is a special place. There’s a sense of connection, pride, and community spirit here that I hadn’t experienced anywhere else — not even after years of living in Delaware.

When I made the decision to leave my career in banking, I knew I wanted to build something that would make a real impact on people’s lives. I wanted to contribute locally — to be part of a community that supports one another and creates meaningful change. That’s what led me to start Seniors Helping Seniors Delco.

Our mission is simple but powerful: to enhance the quality of life for Delco seniors. We do this through a model that’s unique in the home care space — hiring mature caregivers, most of whom are seniors themselves, to help other seniors stay independent in their homes. This approach not only provides compassionate care but also creates rewarding job opportunities right here in our community.

When we first launched, I was fortunate to connect with other small business owners through local networking. In true Delco fashion, the group was incredibly welcoming and eager to support one another. It was during this time that I met Dane, who soon shared his vision for what would become NextPhase Delco — a project that reflects the same community-driven spirit that makes this area so remarkable.
